Personalized gdgt activity stream and new home page (just in time for IFA)!
by Ryan Block on September 2, 2009

Earlier this morning we rolled out a pretty sweet new update: a brand new home page with a fully customized, personalized activity stream. Here’s a little how it works: simply log into your account (or create one if you haven’t already!) and boom, relevant items from your friends, your gadgets, and around the site are now right on your gdgt home page. It’s as easy as that!
Want to see more of what’s going? Just follow more people and add more gadgets to your lists, it’ll all immediately start to appear in your stream. Getting a little too much information? No problem, just hit the customize button and tweak your feed settings — your visible entries will be updated instantly (even including the content in the RSS feed of your stream).
We’ve also introduced a couple of other really neat new bits to the home page feed, like an even nicer inline page loader, a module with the latest products added to gdgt, as well as inline commenting. Read on for more!
Because of these changes, we were also able to simplify the
site a bit as well. As you might notice, we’ve removed the community
section since all of the community feeds content can now be found –
and customized! — in your gdgt stream. If you were a subscriber to
any of your personalized community feeds, don’t worry, we’ve done all
the hard work for you and forwarded those feeds to your new master gdgt
feed. We also removed the community central page for now, but we’ll be bringing it back soon (and with even more useful data)!
I
have to say, of the various updates and features we’ve added since
launch, this one is by far my favorite so far. Hopefully it’ll make
tracking the slew of new gadgets launched at IFA this week — like the Canon EOS 7D, Leica M9, Leica X1, Sony VAIO X, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia X6, Nokia X3, HTC Touch2, Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GF1, Creative ZEN X-Fi2, Creative Vado HD 2nd-gen, and Sony Ericsson Aino, just to name a few — way easier, while adding even more visibility to what your network is doing on the site.
Let us know how you like it!
