Share your comparison and win a $50 Amazon gift card!

We just launched our new and improved product comparison tool last week, and to celebrate we’re giving away three $50 Amazon gift cards! All you have to do to enter is create a product comparison using our new tool (make it something interesting, like a list of your last five cellphones or favorite game consoles or whatever — here’s one I made listing all the Treos I once owned) and then share your comparison on Twitter before 11:59pm EST on Friday, February 10th. We’ll be keeping a close eye on Twitter between now and then and will pick three winners at random from everyone who shares a comparison (make sure you’re following @gdgt on Twitter so we can contact you). Contest is open to everyone — except gdgt employees, of course.

Say hello to gadget comparisons 2.0!

Good news everyone!

It wasn’t so long ago that gdgt launched the best product comparison tool on the block. But we weren’t satisfied. So we went back to the drawing board to design and build an even better way to compare (and even suggest) the tens of thousands of products in the gdgt database.

We’ve been hard at work over the past few months rebuilding the whole thing from scratch, and we’re all really stoked for you to use it! Whether you’re speccing out a fancy new flat-panel HDTV, a digital camera for your next vacation, or an e-book reader to dig into a good book, it’s easier than ever to get the hard data on your next device.

So, what’s new in compare? Well, we rebuilt the whole thing from scratch for speed and simplicity. Sorting by specs and highlighting products is incredibly fast, and now all gdgt users — whether registered or a guest — can save their comparisons for later. We also made it possible to add products to your comparisons all over the site! Just look for the compare icon (or hover over any product image you see around the site).

You can also start a fresh comparison by selecting a category from the compare link in the nav bar. Save as many categories of comparisons as you like — they’ll be waiting for you the next time you come back. Best of all, you can even easily share your comparisons with friends, family, and the whole interwebs.

We hope you find our compare tool as fun to use as it is useful!

Happy comparing!

P.S. -Sharing comparisons on gdgt is so easy, we couldn’t help but throw a few together ourselves! Check ‘em out:

gdgt Zeitgeist 2011

2011 was a pretty damned good year for personal technology, if you ask me. But what did people actually buy and use? I pored over an obscene amount of data from last year and to put together a list of the top products based on what gdgt users added to their lists. Check out the gdgt Zeitgeist before you wish 2011 farewell for good — and don’t forget to review your holiday haul if you haven’t already!

Top 10 products of 2011 / products launched in 2011

  1. Apple iPad 2
  2. Apple iPhone 4S
  3. Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch
  4. Apple MacBook Air 13-inch
  5. HP TouchPad
  6. Nintendo 3DS
  7. Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch
  8. Samsung Galaxy S II
  9. Samsung Galaxy Nexus
  10. Amazon Kindle Fire

Who’d have thought the humble tablet — which for over a decade left a trail of bodies of electronic companies who just couldn’t crack it — would one day rise to the top? Yes, the year’s top-Top 10 list is obviously dominated by Apple products, but I’ve also got to hand it to Samsung, whose Galaxy Nexus made an impressive end-run in the fourth quarter, even despite the large number of (Android) devices the company makes. Windows Phone Night Out in Chicago

The Windows Phone Inner Circle Series Tour continues on, leaving a wake of folks who have won new phones in its path. Tomorrow night and Saturday night the tour hits Chicago.

Unlike some of the events in other cities, the Chicago events will have a bit more going on, including live music from some of the top indie bands around. Windows Phone calls these events “Night Out” events and in Chicago The Drums will be playing.

Interested in going? You must RSVP for the Chicago event (and other upcoming Night Out events) through Facebook.

After Chicago, the Windows Phone Inner Circle tour heads to Boston, Atlanta, and Houston on November 14th. You can RSVP for those events here.

We’ll post an updated schedule in the next couple days that will include info on which events are regular Inner Circle events and which ones are Night Out events.
